The Crown Of Disgrace- Miss Pakistan World.

‘Miss Pakistan World’- an open assassination of the Pakistani cultural values, a historical disgrace and the demise of our values on a global scale occurred in 2003. Where on one hand, the religious and moral boundaries were butchered in the name of liberty, freedom and global competitiveness of the Pakistani women. On the other hand myriad so-called ‘broadminded’ majority esteemed the launch of ‘ Miss Pakistan World’ held in Canada which acclaimed to bring about the Pakistani beauty on the global front and grant the Muslim women the same rights as the other women in the world, by walking the ramp for various rounds in the contest including the ‘bikini round’

The pageant which was aimed at bringing the young Pakistani women from around the world to compete for a ‘diamond studded beauty crown’, in my opinion largely demanded immoral and anti-cultural practices that can be regarded as an ultimate insult to Muslim women . Walking a ramp before the crowd of billions in a bikini is certainly not a symbol of ‘FREEDOM’ rather it portrays the lack of dignity and values on behalf of the Pakistani women who very proudly participated in the contest.

Our culture/ religon most certainly grant women with the fundamental rights and ample freedom in all aspects, however, it does not allow one to misuse their yearning for freedom and bring such shame to the country/ society. Nothing justifies this gesture of these women, who can perform such heinous acts for a mere ‘diamond crown’ and for those who call it liberation of women, its for them to choose whether a mere diamond crown (that calls for “shedding off clothes”) is worth the massacre of your dignity?

  2. I absolutely agree with the author here. Women in our culture and according to our ethical values ought to have high esteem and should stay in the limits that are laid down by Islam for them. Most of us do not completely follow Islam but still staying in limits by enjoying freedom is somewhat required from a woman even if she is very liberal or let's say "modern".
The skin show, various immoral and anti cultural motions through this activity goes highly against our culture. We being Pakistani women should avoid openness to such and extent & also learn the limits which should never be crossed in any case.

  3. i applaud the author for bringing this issue into light. The practice of pakistani women participating in beauty contests is condemned by all. Plus such traditions will largely effect our upcoming generations and guide them to the wrong path away from islam!

  4. A very interesting article. Its sad how this paegent in canada is marketing itself as a representation of new era for women in Pakistan, and what is even worse is that our government is not doing anything to prevent the Pakistani Name from being humiliated worldwide. I know the show is being held in Canada, but I am sure that if the Pakistani government takes legal action under Canadian Law to prevent the Pakistani name from being used in a show, it could be possible to stop this.
It is really ironic that the so called liberal western society thinks that displaying women as mere objects of beauty is open-mindedness.

  5. If Pakistani women want to take the challenge of portraying a new era of women who can compete in the global scale, then the true challenge is to take the hard road in proving that you women are amazingly intellectual because of your cultural and ethical definition of Pakistani Women. Simply trying to reduce yourselves (e.g Ms. Pakistan world) to global fashion undermines your freedom and actually shows that in order to be accepted in the world; Pakistani women have to stop being Pakistani.

  8. hmmm...its good to see how people have their opinions about religion culture and ethics...
I being both Pakistani and Canadian citizen would like to highlight a few things....
I have been in Pakistan my entire life except last few years, but i know one thing here... as mentioned above in the article... that the girls wear bikinis and all infront of millions...what about when same "Pakistani" girls living in Pakistan wear see through shalwar qameez with shalwar which is more like kaprees (doesnt that show ure skin...showing a bit of skin or more doesnt matter its equally unethical as both r showing skin) ... the qameez with zips so tight looks like it wld tear apart???.... and necks showing cleavage????.....where do our ethics go then???? where is our religion then where is our country then...not that im saying that wearing a bikini in front of so many ppl should be acceptable... all im saying is such see through shalwar qameez r allowed in pakistan and people have no objection to that then y object on a bikini....and as far as its concerned that "oh its showing on media" kinda stuff...im in canada now since quite some time, and have come across many young Pakistani girls and we are portraying Pakistan here... its equal to being on media as every1 judges you and your country...but how do v portray it ... by doing weed? ...goin to clubs? drinking?...and yes when girls "from pakistan" here go to beaches they DO WEAR BIKINIS!!!! and all sort of inappropriate clothing arent those girls representing pakistan... we pakistanis dont object on all this but we object on girls who go on television and try to compete with world... again i am repeating myself i dont think it is right to go in front of media and wear such inappropriate clothing...but if pakistani media itself "lollywood" allows all this to be shown then y do we complain about these girls. As an example Saima can show her body in movies..and does all unethical movements on tv which excites a certain class of men... that isnt a problem... but when a girl is just standing just walking decently in same clothing that is unetical ??? the point im trying to make here is...if u want those girls standing for miss pakistan not to go like that infront of media and "shed off their clothes" and stop the "massacre of your dignity" then stop people like saima or meera from doing so too...stop our daughters from dressing up inappropriately not only in pakistan but outside as well..cuz nomatter where in the world they live they will still represent PAKISTAN!...and its equally unethical for all Pakistanis to wear such clothes!!!

  9. i agree with the author..and for azka is not about who shows how much..it certainly isn't a good thing showing skin at all but its about violation of morals at a mass level. you cant question individual acts but as a nation we need to atleast voice our opinion over things we do not want prevailing in our society. wearing capris or tight clothes is individual's CHOICE! and the contest mentioned above is certainly not a choice id make. for this isnt just a competition; it in another way represents a Paki Women and being a Paki girl myself, i wouldn't want MY representation on international levels like this!!! and im sure so wouldnt you azka!

  10. HUMA...as i said before...its not jus about skin i specifically said for ppl who wld say that oh shes doin it infront of media...and now you r bringing up same point..so ill kind of repeat myself when i reply to ure specific statement "but its about violation of morals at a mass level".

    as i mentioned earlier
no.1 lollywood is out film industry. Have you ever bothered sitting down 1ce and watch the punjabi movies made by lollywood?
no.2 you know people in Canada watch the "STAGESHOWS" of pakistan... (have u ever seen it..again yes its not revealing skin but...DO YOU THINK WHT GIRLS DO THERE IS FINE!!!!???? its worse than a "mujra" did u ever sit down and think wht those girls represent our country as?????
no.3 if im here in Canada today i represent pakistan "YES AT A MASS LEVEL" because ppl judge our country based on us...and i have met many pakistani girls who drink smoke do weed wear same kind of inappropriate clothing...arent v represent pakistanis at a mass level then ???? where does our respect dignity and morals go then????
no.4 as i mentioned in my comment before pakistani girls in pakistan dont dress up very decently either...if u sitting next to them dont tell them about morals dont complain about others. (in short dont jus go aftr only a person whos trying to achieve smthing in life...v pakistani jus know how to pull legs of our own ppl and not let em exceed)
no.4 you talk about mass level... come to canada 1ce...the 1st thing people ask u aftr knowing ure from lahore is... hows HEERA MANDI!!!! and every1 wants to visit that place 1ce atleast...as its FAMOUS ALL OVER THE WORLD (MASS LEVEL as u may say)
and im not questioning the individuals act when i say... go to your university tomorrow and look around tell me how many decently dressed girls u find... its not individual when i say look @ lollywood aftr all it is our film industry it does represent pakistan heera mandi is aftr all a huge thing in lahore...or it wldnt b that famous all over the world...every country has its redlight area but y is this so famous...????what about whts shown in the stageshows the girl on the ramp would never dare to move the way the girls on our stage shows move on tv!!!!
and as for you saying"wearing capris or tight clothes is individual's CHOICE! "
ok if its individuals choice... and its seethrough(lawn..and u know many ppl dont wear much under that)
and wht shows under the clothes same as she is showing in the contest no??? but jus in real life... and yes men do get aroused by it...and wht v were talkin here was about morals and respect and “shedding off clothes” wht do u call this?????and when you said nor wld you or me represent our country like this...when i give the scenarios here im not talking about u and me huma im talking about other girls in pakistan...who wld who do all this stuff...and @ international level WE(PAKISTANIS) do all this that the girl is doing on the ramp... and i would again say we talk about wht we want...and forget the main issue... u are talking about REPRESENTING PAKISTAN as i mentioned 2 or 3 times earlier girls who study or are living abroad ARE REPRESENTING AT A MASS/INTERNATIONAL LEVEL and its the same as the girl on the other end of the screen.but just because you (a pakistani) saw it you have a problem with it but have you ever gone deeper and thought through it. people dont judge a country much by a girl participating in MISS PAKISTAN kind of competitions infact they judge the people they interact with...so if anything we should object on clothing v pakistani girls living abroad or if nething in pakistan too first before v complain about these girls...peace ;)

  11. Dude its her life. She can do whatever she wants. And as far as "Bringing shame to Pakistan" Then lemme tell you. Pakistan is badnaam because of many things but its surely not badnaam because of our women. If there's ONE THING Pakistan SHOULD be ashamed about then it should be our CULTURE and our MENTALITY.
And as far as the ranting about this being Un-Islamic goes then let me ask you. Look at yourself first. I can BET none of you girls/guys are perfect Muslims. You can yourself lie, cheat and backbite. 90% of the males in our society have girlfriends before marriage, They commit adultery but in the end they want "pure" wives. I know this is out of topic. But think about it. If it was a guy representing Pakistan in a competition like this then the very same people would have been rooting for him. Sexism much?
You Pakis commit big sins and then here you are telling how "UnIslamic" this girl is being and that a girl "cannot" dress like this.
Do you own her? Do you pay her bills? WHO ARE YOU to say what she can and cannot do. SUCH HYPOCRITES. DOUBLE STANDARDS.
Nobody cares in abroad about how a women dresses. And the world has got better things to do than to pin down a Paki girl for how she dressed in a show, Many are not even aware of our STUPID BARBARIAN culture.
If anything, Im PROUD of her for atleast making an effort to make our country known.
Now you'll say that theres nothing "liberated" about naked women. I, however disagree. If the woman made a CHOICE to be naked and did so because it was HER decision than ill surely call her liberated. I being a SENSIBLE HUMAN BEING will not give a phony about it. Its her life.
There are alot of issues to be considered like women rights, terrorism and poverty. And the only issue the BELOVED author could come up with was how a Pakistani woman decided to dress and decided to take part in a competition?
This gives me no hope. Pakistan is destined to stay in the Dark ages. :(
